I am happy to announce that the Finnish Powerlifting Organization has applied for membership with the WPF.

A more formal announcement when the approval process is complete. Certainly we welcome the addition of  a country with so much lifting history and legendary athletes.

The FPO brings some really oustanding talent with the likes of Coach Sakari Selkäinaho, who is their Secretary and President Toni Haaparanta.

Most of us recognize the names Ano Turtiainen, Jani Murtomäki, and Jonas Rantanen ...these guys all total over 1100kg. !!

My dear friends.

I know some of you are worried that due to the Volcano here in Iceland you might be at risk getting stuck here after the Europeans, and/or have major problems with transportation. I can well understand your worries, but I would like to reflect more light on the situation. As a staff member of Air Iceland here in Akureyri, I have been in the middle of all this, and can give you a better image of how this works.

When you look at it Iceland is very well placed in this eruptions. The volcano is in the middle of the south coast of Iceland which means it is almost impossible for the wind to direct the ash over all 3 international airports in Iceland. When Reykjavik (International airport in Keflavik, south west corner of Iceland) gets closed due to the ash, Akureyri (north) or Egilsstadir (east) are extreamly likely to be open. So I would say if you get unlucky and your flight gets moved it should not take more then 1 day to reroute flights here in Iceland so that you can get home. I know it is not good to get into problems with your flight, but that can happen everywhere, but any problems that arise should not take more then a day to get solved. And if your flight to Iceland gets moved,,,, it will likely get moved to Akureyri which would mean no domestic  traveling, since we hold  the Europeans here.

We are all in this for our love of the sport. I have been to Europeans and Worlds with you guys and have made many good friends. Right now I have 54 Icelandic friends hoping to get to meet all of you, and to have good days of heavy lifting here in June. I hope most of you are still coming over to help us make this year Europeans one of the best the EPC has ever held.

Very best wishes and power wishes from the land of Ice and fire, Sigfus Fossdal.

PS: I will extend the last entry date to 26th of May.

The Main Website of the WPF will be receiving continous upgrades for the remainder of the month. Some will be cosmetic and obvious, while, others will be not so easy to see; but will greatly improve the efficiency of this site.

We have just recently completed a major security enhancement and improved many server side issues.
